Default 454 Belt touch ISSUES!!! Arghhh! HELP!!

Okay I`ve got everything running and going, but my last issue (hopefully) is the routing of the compressor belt alows it to touch the tensioner for the main belt, I have the whipple directions in hand and everything looks right, I`ve looked into getting a different tensioner that is a lower profile but i would have to drill it and install a locator pin to make it work, just wondering if I`m missing something here, I`m pulling my hair out!! I want to drive this puppy!

thank-you for any and all insight!

Clancy

It sounds like the belt could be just a little bit too long. Do you have any photos of this?
Edit - just re-read this and I don't see how belt length could be the problem.
Is it missing an idler pulley or something? From what I know of the 454 kit, both belts go around the water pump on custom aluminum pulley... Trying to envision...

I will get a pic later today, and re-check the diagram for the fiftieth time (: , i figure if i could install a flat pulley on that tensioner it may work but i dunno.....this is weird.

Heres the issue, now to start in these pics i have cut one rib off just so that i can drive over to the tuners house to get the revised tune, and maybe go for a rip, if it flys off i have one last spare for the weekend to get home (:

Anyways the routing of the compressor belt runs right over the stock tensioner, according to the diagrams I`m on the money, or so I beleive anyways,...

It looks like the tensioner handling the OEM accessories is the late-type GM unit. If all you had to remove was just one rib to clear it I think you're in luck....
Of all the brand tensioners for our trucks I've seen, the GM one is the tallest.

Pictured: early GM design, late GM design, aftermarket (Dayco I think)

You might be able to go to the nearest parts store and buy a non-GM tensioner that will work!

(If you're wondering why I have a garage full of tensioners, my truck used to destroy them and belts every 2-3 months!)

Sweet, I will check them out, i tried one at a NAPA store and they were identical but i can shop around, What I figure i really need aswell is the tensioner FOR the compressor, It doesn`t match up visually to any descritions in the books, but i figure it is deflecting abit and causing part of the problem,

So went for a test drive with the tuner and WOW is this thing fun! its running abit rich in the 0-2500rpm, to be re-tuned, but man does it go! 0-50mph it just spins the tires, and i beleive i showed up a duramax on a local river hill, not to sure if he was really trying but we were goin nearly 100mph so i thought so....(: Hoping to rip a vid here tommorow, aslong as the belt stays on. (:

Good to hear it's running!
Do you have headers on it?
I've got a smog-legal set for the Vortec 454 with AIR, EGR, and O2 sensor fittings. Ceramic-coated Hooker Supercomps #HOK-2021-1HKR. Unfortunately they would not fit my half-ton chassis and I had to buy the 1990-93 454SS longtubes instead. (Have not installed yet since they need to be modified. The other ones are band new and taking up space, I used them for mockup and they got some scratches. For those reasons I will let them go for cheap if you're interested!

I don't recognize that type of the top one for the supercharger belt. It's the lower one handling the OEM accessory belt that's the problem, right?
