Default new to forum: 1999 Suburban 7.4L

Hey all! We've had this suburban for years now. It's a 1999 Suburban 2500 with the 7.4L 454. Put the whipple on it when the car was almost brand new.
LOVE IT.

The beast has to be putting out above 500HP. Does somewhere in the 14s in the 1/4, will tow absolutely anything. Recently we got a big plow installed and put on chains, this thing is unstoppable.

Other mods to the car include Brembo disc breaks all round, rancho suspension, tons of aux lights etc.

She's been through one engine fire a while back. Replaced the entire wiring harness because of it. Here's a picture after the fire

I'll get some pictures of the whole car in a bit.

I can't stress enough how much we love this charger. This thing makes me feel naughty to drive. The tires break loose like nothing! It's funny, our local racetrack does drag racing for the public sponsored by the local sheriff department. We took the truck there a few times, the very first time we had two cops walk up to us and say "So you're the guy in that freaking burban eh? We've seen it around...."

hmmm what else, it gets 8mpg with a tailwind

we've removed the top speed limiter and it has gone somewhere in the 120mph range, dunno though the speedo stops at 100!

Funny we actually had the rear wing type thing that keeps the rear window cleaner. Apparently it wasn't made for over 100mph...oops

Hi
Nice truck you have there. Would like to see more photos! I think I see Rancho 9000 shocks with the remote compressor for interior adjustability. Flex-A-Lite fans with variable speed controller? You've got the later 7.4L Whipple kit too - Nice!

I've got a stock 2000 Vortec 454 in my 1999 Tahoe now and am making preparations to fabricate an Intercooled 3.4L Whipple system for it. The way you've described your 6500+ pound 3/4 ton Suburban moving out is making be anxious to speed up my own project! (Riht now I miss my 2.3L Intercooled Whipple-charged heads/cam 383, that thing was obscenely strong!)

What started the fire? Something electrical? I see a mess where the re-located battery was...

Damn, you are good!

Yeah there is a duel flexalite fan system, not variable speed but a variable temperature controller (made by painless wiring, great controller)

And yes, those are the rancho 9000 with remote compressor. We're actually stripping out all the remote compressor stuff, it's just not worth the hastle, breaks too much. As I just leave the shocks on the hardest setting anyways just going to put the dials back on.

Sounds like you are going to have one very very very fast tahoe on your hands! I imagine it is much lighter than the 2500 suburban, and you'll be making even more power with an intercooled system. Which charger are you using? I don't see the 454 listed on the whipple site anymore. Well, it is listed, but in the marine section. You might be able to use the marine charger actually, the mercury marine 454 is pretty much our engine. If I have my history correct (I very well might not) Mercruiser originally made the engine and sold it to GM. Our boat actually has the same engine! I've been tempted to put the supercharger on the boat just for kicks

Here's some pictures, you can see the front brembos, the fans, and the aftermarket headlights
