Default dead miss

I installed a H.O. Intercooled kit on a 2008 GT and it went very good. The problem I'm having now is that the car starts to miss at a moderate acceleration rate under a load. (in 3rd gear acceleration from 2000 to 3000 going uphill). i only have 300 miles on it since completion and haven't gotten on the car yet but, the more it gets driven the worse the miss is. I am running 93 octane fuel with the supplied whipple tune. Any help?

Hi I just installed mine also about a week ago, I purchaced mine from Ford, and it came with a programmer with Ford Software. Do you have the new or older style spark plugs? The newer heads use the stock plugs but they must be gapped at .032 . I have had no problems car runs great it is scarey fast. If you don't have the ford programmer call whipple Art knows his stuff. Also have you checked the fuel pressure? Keep more than 1/4 tank of fuel in the tank. Good luck 08HO Mustang

Yea I have the Ford plugs and they are gapped to .032. My fuel pressure is good at idle and rose through the rpm range (It was 38 at idle) but, that was sitting on jack stands. I have not checked fuel pressure while driving (I use a hand held diagnostic tool) it's a little unsafe. My concern is I'm affraid of damaging something by opening the car up until I get the miss figured out. It seems like it will be a beast when all is said and done. I wonder if the coil on plug connection is good. When they went on I was less than impressed with the feel of the boot on the plug. I have a call into Whipple to see if they have any ideas.

Sounds like a vacuum leak or a damaged O ring on the intake. You might have to pull off the intake to inspect. Good luck

I had my wife drive while I ready the data stream from my hand held. The car made 40 psi of fuel pressure and had 19 degrees of ignition advance while acting up. I swear it sounds just like a points distributer breaking down. I talked to a few guys at Whipple (Mike and Jeff) and they said it could be a bad spark plug. I put the original plugs back in and the car runs fine now. The Ford racing plugs that came in the kit looked fine to me but somehow one or more of them just won't fire correctly. Whipple is sending me a new set to put in. I can tell you this much don't let go of the wheel if you decide to check the low end torque of this set up. Anything under 40 mph and you spin the tires. My 285's don't stand a chance! Thanks for all your input. BTW, did you do any drive line upgrades? I put in a Spyder shaft and Spec clutch with an aluminum flywheel. It didn't seem like it would take long to break up the stock junk.

Glad to see you have i working. I replaced the stock junk shifter with a MGW one real nice. I also installed the Ford racing suspension. It made a hugh difference. The Car is still basically new anly abou 1500 miles on it . I will replace the clutch with a centerforce one. The shaft will be next. I'm not going to be racing the car ,maybe one or two 1/4 mi runs. The Stock gearbox will never hold up to constant abuse. New takeoff gearboxes are available for about $550.00 I think I'll buy one and have it worked rather than going the 6 speed route at a cost of about $4000.00. That way I'll even have a spare . I also have a set of Take off wheels and tires from a GT500. I decided to keep the exhaust system stock. i like it quiet the car attracts no extra attention. I don't need to try to squeeze a few more hp out of it. The car will spin the tires in 2nd gear from a 2500 rpm punch. Gas mileage if I stay out of boost is about 16mpg around town and about 22-23 at 65 . I also elected to install Ford racing boost and fuel pressure gauges on the Pillar. If you want to get Great prices on Ford Racing prices check out SouthWest for in texas. Their discounts beat everyone by a grea margin ask for Keith. Ford paid shipping on all parts I ordered, supercharger front end gauges ect. Have fun with the car I could not be happier. Whipple and Ford got it wright. A dealer install is not necessary. My son and myself did the entire job in about 16 Hrs. 08HO Mustang

Sounds like a sweet car! 1500 miles and already under the hood, You are a true hot rodder. We rolled up about 8500 miles before starting. I wanted to be sure nothing was wrong from the factory. I have herd a lot of good things about the suspension set up your running, hope it holds up well at the track for you. That will definitly be my next upgrade. I just read a article on a '05 with the whipple ho running 12 psi boost with the Ford racing suspension set up and 4:10 gears. He is running a automatic (stock) and clipped off a 11.4 @120. Hopefully you'll be somewhere close.

Thanx The suspension is real nice, wheelhop is a thing of the past. Handleing is far superior to stock no body lean whatsoever. I read the same article. I'm going to keep the 3.55 gears I have,4.10"s are a bit much consideing how fast first gear winds up.As soon I
floor it in first gear it hits the rev limiter due to wheel spin with P285 by 18 Goodyears.Anyway I love the package it even gets 15-16 mpg around town if I can keep my foot out of it. Good luck let me know if I can help.
